How to stop holding yourself back and start seeing opportunities

It's so easy to fall into this trap...

Most people in real estate spend a huge portion of their time focused on their day-to-day work.

We're consumed by the fires we've got to put out. 🔥

I feel this way easily when friends ask about making plans.

Too often, I'll respond that "I'm just trying to keep up  with what's happening later today."

And that's normal and okay (especially with two small kiddos), but we can't accidentally get stuck only focusing on what's right in front of our face.

If we want to really excel, we've got to find a balance between our short-term focuses and long-term vision.

I had the honor of speaking at ONE Sotheby's International's Luxury Outlook Event last week.

In addition to the brokerage leadership, I was joined by Colin Tarbert, the CEO of the Downtown Investment Authority (DIA) in Jacksonville

His discussion was on the changes underway and upcoming in Jacksonville — especially in the luxury market.

One big thing that continues to stand out to me is just how important it is for us to have a big vision for what's possible around us.

For example, Colin recently moved to Jacksonville after serving in a similar role in Baltimore, MD.

He pointed out how he's already seen a similar city transform its downtown, so he could easily see the possibilities in Jacksonville.

Honestly, it's something that's nearly impossible for long-time Jacksonville residents to do given the city's slower growth over the past 25 years. 😤

Further, One Sotheby's International CEO, Daniel De La Vega, validated many of the things I've been saying for years about Jacksonville.

Being from Miami, Daniel can easily see the potential and value proposition Jacksonville offers relative to other parts of Florida.

He knows the growth that's coming because he's not blinded by the past.
 

Think big, win big. 🏆

What kind of vision do you have for your business and life?

Are you thinking small and only focused on what's happening day-to-day?

Or are you thinking big and expanding your vision for what's possible?

Because this can be challenging to do on your own, it's a big part of why I personally have a business coach.

Also, it's why I am prioritizing events that help us see segments of the market we could easily miss: the vision for downtown, investment opportunities, and custom home building. 

We've got to see the big vision because then the moves we should make become more obvious. 

Nobody wants to be looking back in 5 years saying "I wish I would have known all of this was going to happen. I would have done things so differently." 🤦‍♂️

So, if you want to expand your vision, you need to get out of your bubble. 

  • Take some trips to other cities and see what real estate is like there.
  • Get involved with the organizations who are bringing about the change in our area.
  • And instead of thinking "what if it crashes?" start asking yourself "what if goes better than we think? 

Our lives are what we make them.

You're capable of more than you believe. 💪
