Taking Action: The Skill Successful People Master

goal setting limiting beliefs mindset Mar 30, 2025

It's been time. You're ready. πŸ’ͺ

In 1988, Nike introduced the world to it's tagline "Just do it."

Short. Simple. To the point. Powerful!

And something we could all use a bit more of, if you ask me.

Everywhere we turn, we're faced with decisions to make, challenges to overcome, and actions to take.

But we have a tendency to hit pause.

Fear plays a large role in why we don't take action. It's easy to feel:

  • Fear of failure (and it's impact on our ego)
  • Fear of social judgement (and how others will think of us)
  • Fear of loss (and how life will be worse because of our action)
  • Fear of success (and what that would require of us going forward)

Further, we tend to fantasize and tell ourselves "if I can just ___________, then I'll be ready to do this."

Of course, it feels responsible to wait for conditions to be perfect.

But truth is it's fear disguised as preparation.

Guess what? The outcome is the same.

You don't take action. You don't accomplish your goals.

Your dreams stay just that - dreams.

Some Of My "Just Do It" Moments πŸ“–

I've had several "just do it" moments leading up to today.

A big one was leaving a job I really loved at Home Depot corporate in Atlanta to become a mortgage banker with Bank of England in Jacksonville.

Going from a salary with stock options to a commissioned sales role with no guarantees is not the most comfortable change.

But, I made it work.

Then, I decided to invest in myself and go back to school to get my Doctorate from UF.

This was 10 years after graduating, while having 2 kids under 2, and during the pandemic.

I emphasize all of that because there were plenty of "reasons" to put it on hold or wait until a "better time."

In my most recent just do it moment, I launched The Market Distillery in 2022.

At the time, I had an established mortgage business including a team of 5, was coming off our best year ever, and two young kiddos at home.

What made me decide to quit and start something new?

One day, my daughter asked me why I worked so much...

After I told her I wanted to giver her whatever kind of life she wanted, she told me she just wanted to s with me.

I still remember it like it was yesterday.

And just like that, my priorities changed.

I could either choose to keep doing what was easy or listen to the wake up call and figure out something new.

From Crazy to Crazy True. πŸ€―

Do you remember when this video of Shia LeBeouf went viral?

I remember watching it and thinking how he seemed crazy.

As I re-watch it now, I'm blown away at how crazy true what he's saying is.

It's poetic, really:

Do it
Just do it

Don't let your dreams be dreams
Yesterday you said tomorrow
So just do it

Make your dreams come true
Just do it

Some people dream of success
While you're gonna wake up and work hard at it
Nothing is impossible

You should get to the point
Where anyone else would quit
And you're not going to stop there
No, what are you waiting for?

Do it
Just do it
Yes you can
Just do it
If you're tired of starting over
Stop giving up

What do you need to just do? πŸ€”

This isn't a recommendation to do anything and everything.

Ethics exist. Extreme actions aren't always the answer.

But taking action (despite your fear) is a skill everyone needs to develop.

One tool that will help you take more action is Mel Robbins' 5 second rule.

Creating a habit where you count down from 5 and just do the thing will change you.

And if we adapt Dave Ramsay's thinking behind the debt snowball strategy, we can begin by taking action on little things to build momentum.

For example, start with small tasks:

  • just doing the dishes when you see them rather than saving them for late
  • taking those clothes to Goodwill that have been in your trunk for a year
  • or calling your loved one to say hi the moment you think about it

Then you can build up the action muscles and work your way to bigger actions like getting in shape, hiring the assistant, or building your business so that you can take 2 months off without taking calls the whole time.

Find what matters to you and just do it! πŸš€

Realtors: want to be confident discussing the market?Β πŸš€

If you're like so many of the Realtors I meet, you know understanding the local market is one of the most important things you can do as a real estate agent.

Everyone asks "how's the market?" when you meet them and the way you respond either opens a door of opportunity or shuts it.

Most Realtors have the stats but don't know what to do with them. There's so much going on that it gets confusing quickly.

Β If this sounds like you, My Market Insiders coaching could be just what you need. It's part local market updates, part business strategy so that you can be clear about exactly what's happening in the market and how to use that expertise to attract your ideal clients.

Members rate itΒ 9.8 out of 10Β for value to their business andΒ increase their confidence talking about the market by 24%.Β
